What is ThemeForest?

ThemeForest, currently part of the Australia-based Envato market, is an online marketplace where you can buy and sell HTML templates as well as themes for popular Content Management Systems, including WordPress, Drupal and Joomla, just to name a few. To make searching for themes easier to blog owners, ThemeForest has categorized the hundreds of themes it has for sale, all of you have to do is look through them to pick the one you feel is right for you. If you are not sure where you are looking for it has a built-in search engine where you can just type the keywords you want. ThemeForest also sets aside the more popular files as well as the themes from top web designers and developers for your quick perusal, and also features the work of a different web designer or developer per week so you can view what they have to offer.  Themes are priced on the complexity and quality and how it is used, the price already includes a Buyer’s Fee. Here is how to update ThemeForest themes with the WordPress Envato toolkit. Note that you must have a ThemeForest account to do this.

Installing Envato

First released in 2012, the Envato WordPress Toolkit is a plugin lets you see what ThemeForest themes you have purchased using the WordPress dashboard, lets you choose whether or not to receive updates to these themes and automatically updates those you want.  Note that Envato doesn’t come with WordPress, you’ll have to go do GitHub and download this plugin. Download Envato by clicking on the “Download ZIP” on the right-hand side of the page. There are a few steps to accomplish to get it up and running, just follow the process.  Next, you have to generate an API key to link your WordPress blog site to your Themeforest account. Just login to ThemeForest, go to your dashboard and click on “My Settings.” The API Keys screen allows you to generate a free API key. Install Envato WordPress Toolkit Plugin and then activate it. A new menu item, the “Envato Toolkit,” should appear in the admin sidebar. Click on that sidebar link and type your marketplace username and API key.  Click “Save Settings”. From here on, all the themes you have purchased from ThemeForest should appear on this page after you refresh it.

Updating Themes

You can set up Envato to alert you to theme updates regularly. If you don’t want to have to manually install each regular update, click on the “install automatically” button beside each of your themes and it will do the rest. Envato also has a settings page that lets you install themes you haven’t already uploaded to your site, you can also delete ones you don’t use anymore as well as set up theme backups. Making a blog is actually a fun thing to do, considering the many ways you can make it look like. Be sure you have access to themes that can really bring out the best in your blog site.
