Productive Layouts and Interactions in Web Design

Nearly everything around us is the design of a creative professional. A good design (and productive layouts) is a key measure of how people interact with or uses a product. With the massive number of websites popping up on the internet on a daily basis, it has become a necessity for web developers to create something that stands out from the rest. A better web design increases the chances of a user revisiting the page as well as the productivity of the page

Creating the perfect design is impossible. A good design is a combination of carefully selected colors, patterns, fonts, and layout. Abnormally large or small font sizes, long paragraphs, few graphical features, dull color palettes, are all reasons to drive away a new visitor. From a large number of coding languages in the market, choose one which you are most comfortable with, and offers more features. HTML5 Developers recommend using their latest addition to create the perfect web page.

Here are some simple pointers to create an interesting web design:

Productive Layouts and Interactions in Web Design

Keep it simple

You might have hundreds of ideas running in your head when you plan on creating a new web design, but don’t exhaust it all on one design. Carefully filter out and choose the right few to make your page interesting. Keep the remaining bunch of ideas for another time.

Simple designs are usually more attractive than a page cluttered with too much information and images. They are also easier and more convenient to understand. Simple and few lines and patterns can create a bold statement. Leaving some white spaces also shows signs of a confident designer.

Fonts

Choosing fonts and font sizes is actually a long process. Paragraphs that look compressed and small are never going to be read. A new visitor should be able to skim through with ease and get an idea of what you are trying to convey. Use font colors, styles and sizes to emphasize and differentiate. If there is a bulk content, break it up into paragraphs or bullet points. This will allow a user in a rush, to scroll through the page fast and get a quick idea of the content.

Accuracy

Be on point. Readers like to read content that is crisp and edited. Use additional links that give details or explanations about any topic. This means the home page should be as simple as possible with minimal content.  Pictures and funky graphics pursue new visitors to scroll through the page further.

Think from another person’s perspective before adding content. It would make no sense to a second person who cannot relate to the content on your page if it’s just your personal ideas about a topic. Take opinions from different people for an idea and make a sensible conclusion from the different viewpoints; unless it’s your personal blog, then you can write whatever you want, however you want.

Science of Design

Do a bit of research on colors and their effects on the eye and the mind. Different colors and their tones and shades evoke different kinds of moods and feelings. If your page talks about mental health and Yoga, or you wish to create a sense of calm in the reader, prefer using cooler palettes such as blue, green, violet, etc.

An important detail to keep in mind is to create an interactive environment for the user. Add some links, voting tabs, moving graphics or videos, pop-up notifications and other such features that can keep the eye and the mind equally occupied. This can be also be done by requiring the user to fill in surveys, asking for comments, etc. Many websites often require the user to create personal profiles. This increases the reach of your website and chances of your site coming on the top of the search results. Engaging the visitors using fun elements can leave a lasting impression.

Web designing is a skill that is mastered over time with practice. It is definitely hard to make your web page stand out from the rest, but don’t be afraid to try something new. Users are always on the look for content that is different. Be honest and confident in your work and take any criticism with a constructive approach.
