How To Set The Default Date Range in Google Analytics

Do you find yourself constantly needing to update the default date range in Google Analytics? Mine was set to 7 days by default – not a very useful range but nonetheless a range. I wanted to have the default range set to 30 days (not sure why GA doesn’t use this rather more useful range!).

Setting The Default Date Range

  1. Log in to your Google Analytics account.
  2. In the top right hand side, next to your name, click the small 3 cricles dropdown menu. Click on User Settings. How To Set The Default Date Range in Google Analytics
  3. On the settings page, set the default date range to your desired value. Save and voila, all set!

Why Google chose to put this value in such a strange place, no-one knows. What would also be great, is a date range per view (Clicking Admin > View Settings). Hopefully they will incorporate this in future updates.
