So you have a blog? That’s good news! However I have some bad news for you; this is the Internet, so yours is obviously not the only blog out there. There are perhaps millions of blogs from other people competing for the attention of readers. You just entered a cutthroat competitive world where failure to excel or keep up means you might end up being your only reader.
Don’t worry, it’s not the end of world (or your blog). There are some things you can do to make sure you get your blog noticed.
Don’t be Boring
Remember that you are writing for an audience with different interests, levels of intelligence, and experience, you are not trying to compose a term paper or a dissertation. Don’t be so stiff and formal in your writing, don’t be afraid to inject a little humor and satire into your writing when appropriate but don’t overdo it either.
Write to draw a reaction from the audience or to start a debate, but don’t be an instigator for trouble.
Pick Interesting Topics
Newbie bloggers are often faced with the dilemma of choosing to write for themselves or to write for their readers. The good choice is to write for the readers. Write for yourself, focus only on you and see how long your readers will stay around…that’s if they will stay.
Don’t dwell on one topic for too long either, bring new topics into your blog, it will attract new readers and also new opinions.
As to what topics to pick, make sure you choose one your audience is certain to be interested in. Sure, some topics might interest you, but are they appealing to your target audience?
Position yourself as an Expert
Sure, you can just write about anything, but when it comes to specific topics, can you write about something with authority? Blogging for affiliate marketing is simply having an online conversation about something you happen to have knowledge or expertise in. Readers will be able to tell if you really know about something or just trying to pass yourself off as a so-called “expert”.
Share Experiences and Information
One way to make a good impression on readers is to share your knowledge and experience. however, take care to do this in the most natural way you can; you don’t want to give the impression that you are preachy or a know-it-all. Aside from sharing your ideas, you can also share information like upcoming scheduled events and happenings; in fact these can make good material for blogs.
Invite Guest Bloggers
Nothing brings fresh ideas, insight and topics to a blog more than a new writer. Guest blogging is when someone else writes for your blog, usually in exchange for the promotion of his or her blog on yours.
The added advantage of having guest bloggers is that his or her readers will be directed to your blog, just be sure to get a guest writer who has more readers than you.
Share Your Content On Social Sites (and Provide Links)
Those who go online spend a lot of time on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, and others. Posting your blog content on your social media account will show it to your friends, who may then refer you to their friends, and those friends will refer it to their friends, and so on. Get the idea?
Remember that getting people to notice your blog is just the beginning. The next thing you have to focus on is keeping them interested and getting them to come back for more. Don’t worry, as long as you followed the steps above you should have won half the battle.
